Youthline provides a free, confidential counselling service for young people of secondary school age and up to 25. We also provide a low-cost counselling service to adults aged 26+ who care for and support young people. We offer humanistic, client-centred counselling in person, online and by telephone.

We are an early intervention charity dedicated to addressing client's issues before they develop into serious mental health concerns.

We work across a number of locations within Bracknell Forest including our main base at Portman Close, Bracknell and 8 secondary schools.

Annabel and Carly from Youthline had a great time meeting Year 6 students and their parents at Garth Hill College’s open evening! It was lovely to chat with so many young people and hear what’s on their minds as they get ready to start secondary school. 💬

We asked three big questions:

Here’s what we heard:
🩵 “I’m looking forward to making new friends, learning new subjects like art, science and maths, doing sports and going on trips.”

Dopamine is often called the reward or pleasure chemical. It’s released when we do things that feel good — like exercising, eating something tasty, or even just anticipating a reward. That rush of excitement you feel when something good is coming? That’s dopamine at work!

It’s powerful because it touches several areas of the brain and influences memory, learning, behaviour, and movement.

There are lots of ways you can naturally boost dopamine, such as:

“Starting uni was a huge change for me. I’d spent all my education in a state school, so moving to university — with less structure, higher expectations, and a busy social scene — was a big shock. I spent hours revising just to keep up and often felt the pressure to make friends and attend every social event.

It was overwhelming at times, and I definitely felt lost, but I’ve learned that this is completely normal. University can be challenging, but it’s also a time for growth, learning about yourself, and finding your own pace. You’re definitely not alone in feeling this way, and things do get easier.”
